October 2005
Awhile ago I read in the newspaper that in the United States of America had been proposed a new law which would allow them to use nucleair weapons as a preventive measure against countries that were suspected to be a (terroristic) threat to the US.
Fortunately — that law was too stupid for words to be accepted anyway — that didn't go through and I actually found it too ridiculous to spend any energy on commenting on.
Earlier this month the Senate appeared to have issued a statement that every single prisoner in American captivity wherever in the world should be refrained from inhuman treatment. In itself this statement is already ridiculous, because to me it's self-evident that people are treated as people. No one has the right to abuse, torture or kill another person. But since the US already manoeuvred themselves in a dodgy position after they decleared themselves to be above the International War Crimes Tribunal in The Hague and since they seem to have a fairly liberal interpretation of the Geneva Convention, forementioned statement probably was some kind of revelation to the Senate.
But... following this statement Dick Cheney and CIA-hotshot Porter Goss pleaded secret services in the US and secret operations abroad to get an exceptional position to that rule, so that they would basically be allowed to torture people that are not US citizens in situations that are threatening to the US.
It looks like a part of the US government has suffered from severe brain damage for even proposing these kind of things. I' sure that if this would go through, they would find a threat in any situation. A bit like how the Patriot Act is put together. There's no privacy anymore, because it doesn't matter how you turn it, they will always find a way to turn it so that it's a threat.
I truly think that the United States have changed from a protective world power into a global threat. There's nothing rational anymore in what is going on there. The people in charge have completely lost the way since the attacks of 9/11.
How long will it take still, before World War III breaks loose?
I think it's only a matter of time if it continues to go on like this.
