The world was shocked by photographs of US soldiers doing all kinds of unethical things with Iraqi prisoners. And "unethical" is a very diplomatic correct term to use here. What they were doing was worse than a shameless humiliation of a fellow human being.
It might've been "fun" for them to do, but had they known anything about the background of the people they were doing this to, they would've realized that it was not just a humiliation, but something fatal for the existence of those people.
This whole war started from lies, and now the continuing activities are also based on lies. As with so many things in war times, this was also tried to be covered up.
The US tells everyone how they are liberating Iraq, and how their help will allow Iraqi people to live a "normal" life again, but how hypocrite is it really, when you look at the situation now? How liberated is Iraq really? And how "normal" is the life that they live there really?
From the pressure of the public, the US government is now all of a sudden claiming to do everything they can to bring the evil doers to justice. And how hypocrite is that?
First trying to cover it up, lie it away, trying to squirm away from it. And then when the public smells shit, beginning to act like a saint. How many people will actually believe that this whole public prosecution and courtmartial thing is sincere? Is meant? It's not! It's nothing more than a publicity stunt. Nothing more than a miserable, pathetic attempt to save face.
But we were following orders!
Ok, in the army you're supposed to follow orders. You're made a number without opinion and to obey no matter what. But that same army teaches you to uphold the law and to honor your country. So what do you do when you are ordered to do something against the law, to dishonor your country? Do you still obey, no matter what?
Don't you have any moral in your gut? Don't you have any humanity? Don't you have a spine?
How was it again? You swore on the Bible to serve your country. And in God we trust.
Do you have ANY clue what it says in the Bible?
Love your neighbor as you love yourself is one of the things.
And who's the first one to condemn the Iraqi people if they retaliate what was done to them?
Don't get me wrong. I'm not justifying what they did. I think it's a cowardous thing what they did. As inhumane as what was done to them. Maybe even more.
And as religious as those Iraqis are, I'm sure there's something in the Koran alike what's in the Bible:
If someone slaps you in the face, turn to him your other cheek.
Ofcourse not to take literally, but you get my point. They shouldn't have done this either.
But can you REALLY blame them? It's even more saintish of the US to condemn them for what they did, it's another opportunity to take the attention away from what they started in the first place.
Had the US and British soldiers not done the things they did, the things that the Iraqis did with the innocent American would most likely not have happened in the first place.
We're ending up in a vicious circle of revenge. They did this to us, so we are allowed to do that to them, and they are allowed to do this back to us.
It's called self-destruction. And in the end millions of people are the victim of the pride of a few people.
How many wars does it take to teach people that it ends only in pain and grief and that there's no gain for ANYone?
