Fall 1992

In the second year of my graphical school we had the luxury to have the Wednesdays off. They stuffed our whole program in four (long) days. But we didn't care, because the weeks went incredibly fast with having the Wednesday off.
Anyway... this was a Wednesday and I had to do some schoolwork. It was a beautiful day, warm and sunny and I decided to pack up my stuff, get outside and do it there. I made myself a cup of tea and started my schoolwork. It was some assignment for my drawingclass and for a while I was so engaged with it that I forgot all about the tea that I made.
When I took a little break after some 30 minutes my tea was almost cold. I didn't really care, took a big sip and got back to drawing. I started nibbling on what I thought was a tealeaf that had probably come out of the teabag when I poured the hot water on it.
It took me a while to realize that this was quite a big tealeaf. Actually, it was such a big tealeaf that I couldn't really believe that it would actually be a real tealeaf and in growing worries I started wondering what the hell I had been chewing on.
I spit it out and checked what it was.
I just managed not to start vomitting when I saw the fly lying on the floor. I hadn't completely chewed it up, luckily, but I was so disguested that I threw the tea away and started brushing my teeth and eating cookies and chips to get rid of the weird taste in my mouth which I imagined was there, but which wasn't actually there.
Since then I always look in my drink before I take a sip, no matter where I am...
