June 2002

I was in the nightshift and took a little break from my work. I was listening to the radio, the news was on, and the were talking about the situation in the Netherlands Antilles.
There'd been an issue about it going on for quite awhile already, because there's a lot of drug traffic coming from the Netherlands Antilles to Holland. Drugcarriers having their stomachs filled with little bolls of cocaine and it happened frequently that one or a few of those bolls would pop and then the carrier would either end up in the hospital (on Dutch taxpayer's expense) or die, leaving the authorities a whole bunch of paperwork. And in the end the cells in Holland would end up so full that they couldn't handle them anymore and had to let them go without anything else than a court order (which ofcourse no one would appear to).
The Dutch government was so sick and tired of the situation that they wanted to turn the Netherlands Antilles back into a Dutch province instead of an independant Dutch area. As a province the Dutch government would have a lot more influence there and they would be able to deal with the chaos there from within.
When the word got out to the Netherlands Antilles government they were majorly pissed and insulted and they refused to cooperate if the plans would go through like that.
Then the Dutch government and airways started boycotting flights to and from the Netherlands Antilles, because basically that was the only way to solve the drug problem. And they would continue boycotting unless the Antilles government would seriously attack the problems from also their side of the track.
And then in the news I heard that the Netherlands Antilles government refused to do something about it themselves, because it would be a great damage to the economy of the Antilles if the drug traffic would disappear.
And with that they asked the Dutch government for help in dealing with the problem, because they didn't want to kill their own economy.

How much more hypocrite can it get still?
