inspired by Walt Whitman's poem "this compost"...
We talk of legends, such as Robin Hood and historical persons such as Caesar, Cleopatra, or even Jesus. To us they are stories, legends larger than life. Yet many of these have existed — that is, they all might have.
Consider those proven as a fact to have existed, Caesar for example. When I think of him, I place him in a group of half-mythical beings, but what strikes me is the realistic feeling I get of his actual existence, when I think of his bones that may still lie somewhere. That a part of him still can be found, if we know how to search. Somehow that makes him a lot more real.
